About Us

Come in. Bring your wonder. We’re a humanist community that uses story, play, and imagination to practice compassion, strengthen critical thinking, and build a kinder world together.

What “Sacred Play” means here

We use “sacred” the way you might talk about a sacred promise or a sacred trust: what matters deeply. And we use “play” as a way of learning, healing, connecting, and remembering that joy can be both real and responsible.

What you’ll find here

  • The Sacred Play Podcast
  • Books, essays, and resources for empathy and clarity
  • Courses and discussion prompts that help turn values into practice
  • Occasional projects that use humor and fantasy to expose harmful ideas without dehumanizing people

Our values

  • Dignity for every person
  • Curiosity over certainty
  • Compassion with boundaries
  • Evidence and accountability
  • Community care

How we’re different from religion

We call ourselves a “church” because community matters, because ritual can be meaningful, and because we like reclaiming big, sacred language for human dignity. But we’re not a traditional religion, and we’re not asking anyone to suspend critical thinking.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t claim divine authority. No holy revelations, no prophets, no “because we said so.”
  • We don’t require belief. Participation isn’t based on faith in invisible claims.
  • We don’t police identity. No purity culture, no shame scripts, no hierarchy of “worthy” people.
  • We don’t demand certainty. You’re allowed to revise your views when new evidence shows up.

What we do instead

  • We practice compassion and accountability. Kindness matters, and so do boundaries.
  • We center dignity and consent. People are not projects, trophies, or threats.
  • We use wonder as a tool. Story, play, humor, and imagination help us grow, connect, and heal.
  • We stay grounded in reality. Evidence, honesty, and intellectual humility are part of the culture.

A note for believers

If you’re religious, you’re welcome here too, as long as you’re not trying to convert anyone and you’re aligned with our commitments to dignity, consent, and evidence-based thinking.
